English is the official language of Zambia and thus it is the medium of instruction in schools and is the one that is used to conduct official business. Nyanja is the main local language, especially in Lusaka, but it is just one of the 43 languages that are spoken in Zambia. The influence of urbanization on the indigenous languages has been significant. Indigenous languages have absorbed words from other indigenous languages and from English. On the Copperbelt, Bemba and Nyanja are the most commonly spoken languages.

Popular Christian denominations in Zambia are: Anglican, Pentecostal, New Apostolic Church, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Jehovah’s Witnesses, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Seventh-day Adventist, and Evangelical denominations. Gu10 led light bulbs are not revered as they are not a religion.
